Thank You for Helping to Make the 2018 LightBridge 5K a Fabulous Event!

The LightBridge team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 400-plus families, staff, providers and sponsors who joined us for the 10th annual LightBridge 5K Walk Run on Sept. 16, 2018 at Liberty Station.

We had a beautiful morning celebrating loved ones and creating lifelong memories while raising funds for the LightBridge Hospice Community Foundation. Monies raised will be used to fund programs and services that call to the heart and nourish the spirit of hospice patients and their families throughout San Diego, including:

Simple Gifts

Granting end of life wishes, such as the chance to see the ocean one more time, to go out for a special meal, or to spend time with a loved one.

We Honor Veterans Ceremonies

A formal and meaningful ceremony conducted for veterans receiving hospice care throughout San Diego.

Music and Memory Program

Bringing joy and peace to hospice patients and their loved ones through the gift of music.

Alma G. Wise Integrative Therapies Fund

Supporting non-medical, therapeutic programs such as aromatherapy, healing touch, pet therapy, and supportive art.

Day of Respite

A unique opportunity for caregivers to take a break, relax, recharge, and connect with others who are also caring for their loved ones.

Care for Those in Need

Funding patient care for those who do not have a hospice benefit provided by their private insurance, Medicare or MediCal.

These and other uplifting programs are made possible through the support of the community. In 2017, the LightBridge 5K raised more than $53,000, with 30 teams participating in the 5K. Stay tuned for our 2018 totals.

We are extremely grateful for the empathy, compassion and togetherness of the San Diego community in helping patients and families in such meaningful ways. Thank you again to all, and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s 5K Walk Run!

Getting into the spirit before the start of the race!

Enthusiastically awaiting the starting whistle, United States Marines from Marine Corps Recruitment Depot San Diego led the race carrying the banner, which was signed by bereaved families.

LightBridge CEO & Founder Jill Mendlen, RN,with Capt. Kalish and Capt. Gorrie, our honoree veteran volunteers. They were honored for the countless hours they have dedicated to our We Honor Veterans Program and conducting Honor Ceremonies for Veterans on our service.

Volunteer Nadia was working the remembrance quilt booth and was reconnected with the family of one of the first patients that she visited on our service a few years ago. It was a lovely reunion and a beautiful moment of connection as the family signed their loved ones name on the banner and left their photo in a pocket of the quilt.

Team camaraderie at the photo booth before starting the race!
